Agricultural biotechnology encompasses a variety of methods, including traditional breeding and gene editing, that alter living organisms or parts of them in order to create better and healthier plants or produce microbes for specific agricultural uses. Modern agriculture is no longer conceivable without such methods and gives farmers tools to make output more cost-effective and manageable.
So what are the future challenges? Where do we need new agricultural inputs and technology to make agriculture more sustainable and efficient? Is it organic plant boosters, seed treatments, or genome editing that will define the future?

Agriculture's response to climate change is carbon farming. Simply put, the idea is to remove excess carbon from the atmosphere, where it contributes to global warming, and store it in soil, where it helps plants thrive. The concept is simple enough; the execution, however, is not. Carbon farming is increasingly being incorporated into agricultural practice but still a very small portion of the world's farmland uses this method.
So how can carbon farming really be successfully integrated into tomorrow's crop production and what technologies are needed to achieve this? What are the benefits of carbon farming and how can we efficiently measure its success?

RootCamp - A SpinLab Incubator - is an intra- and entrepreneurial incubator that catalyzes innovation within the agriculture and food industry.
Our mission is to disrupt the agri-food value chain, combining startup programs and corporate innovation.
It was initiated by the SpinLab Accelerator and K+S, a worldwide player in the fertilizer and salt field.
The incubator is located in the heart of Hannover, the capital of the German federal state Lower Saxony and a center of the agriculture and food industry.
Early-stage and later stage startups from all over the world are welcomed to join different programs, which last from 3 to 12 months. To seize growth opportunities, teams get unique access to coaching, mentoring, expert knowledge and the network of corporations, investors and other entrepreneurs. Additionally, the program fuels the implementation of ideas into scalable business by a non-equity grant valuing up to 50k euro.
Participation in the event is free and only requires a short registration.
